Thursday Pictures – THE BLUE CAFTAN

Thursday 7 March 2024 – 7.30pm @ Killara Centre, Camperdown

THE BLUE CAFTAN is 2022 Moroccan Arabic-language drama film directed by Maryam Touzani, and written by Touzani with the collaboration of Nabil Ayouch.

Mina (Lubna Azabal) and her husband Halim (Saleh Bakri) run a traditional caftan store in one of Morocco’s oldest medinas. To keep up with the demands of their customers they hire Youseff (Ayoub Missioui) as an apprentice. Slowly Mina realises how much her husband is moved by the presence of the young man.

Woven with exquisite care, THE BLUE CAFTAN reveals a beautiful love triangle exploring mortality and sexuality in a small Moroccan town. Touzani presents a complex marriage with tenderness and grace in a sincere and superbly performed film that unfolds in unexpected and heartening ways.
